The dragon of day

Born in the color of morning
Golden yellow his young body
His first prey success
And the scales turn milky blue
The first jump of the cliff
Skin blue as the Heaven
He grows up to the Master of skies
In Royal blue he claims the throne
Seeking a lovely mate
In purple shade he founds a family
The father of a new generation
In the nights blue he watches them grow
Protects them in fierce battles
Scales turn wearily black
Finally his offspring become adults
His eyes turn gray his skin light violet
The new generation claims the throne
Happily his scales turn red and orange
He watches his grandchildren hatch
And with a happy gaze he turns pink
One last time his wary body takes off
Pink the color of dawn
Pink the color of death
The last stage of the Dragons of Day



This is for the Pink dragon contest [link] otherwise i would never draw a pink dragon, and i only do it if i invent a good reason like the Dragon of Day legend, i apologize for the horrible poem, I´m just no good with english poems, alhtough i wish i were. Hopefully he´s pink enough for the contest...

I didn´t knew where to put it, i drew the dragon and photoshopped it afterwards, theoretically it´s both but eh. I´m glad the scales are still visible, it was quite some work to do them with pencils but quite fun too

I like how the entire picture is rather dark like right before the sun dawns, originaly i wanted a pinkish background but it didn´t work out with the dragon.

I think i succeeded with making him look old, with all the scars, missing limbs and wrinkles. I wish i could compose a background where you can also see his family saying farewell to him as he sets off to his last flight. His blind eyes might not be able to see the sunrise, but he feels the oncoming warmth of the sun on his back.
